Book Review: The Egyptian

At a mausoleum in Cairo’s most notorious cemetery, a mercenary receives a package containing a silver test tube suspended in hydraulic stasis.

An investigative reporter tracking rogue biomedical companies is terrified by the appearance of a mummified man outside her Manhattan apartment.

A Bulgarian scientist who dabbles in the occult makes a startling discovery in his underground laboratory.

These seemingly separate events collide when Dominic Grey and Viktor Radek, private investigators of cults, are hired by the CEO of an Egyptian biomedical firm to locate stolen research integral to the company’s new life extension product. However, after witnessing the slaughter of a team of scientists by the remnants of a dangerous cult thought long abandoned, Grey and Viktor turn from pursuers to pursued.

From the gleaming corridors of visionary laboratories to the cobblestone alleys of Eastern Europe to a lost oasis in the Sahara, Grey and Viktor must sift through science and myth to uncover the truth behind the Egyptian and his sinister biotech – before that truth kills them.

REVIEW:
I think i found one more new favorite series! XD

So for those who haven't read my review of The Summoner (tsk tsk!), i will talk a little about the style of the book which hasn't changed. The Egyptian, is a mystery thriller story, where Dominic Grey and Victor Radek are working as private investigators on religion cults. Now now, don't be "oh it's religion..and will destroy what we know as Dan Brown" and stuff like that. Nothing like that my friends. Is a mystery, where (until know) try to find missing persons or missing stuff, at start. It's more of the solve a mystery type, than the book that explains the world. Which is something that i totally love! There is so much info on history, mythology, religion, the description of the places where the character travel (yes they are not only in one place in this one!) that make an absolute adventure for me. Suspense, action, twists, killing and many new characters are part of the story.

In difference with the previous book, this one had more than 3-4 POVs. The people who are included in the story, are many more and that you get to see a bit of everyone is a nice touch. Of course, Grey is our main character again. A person that i personally really like. He can be harsh but he is kind. And even behind his stance or the killing he does, you can that is actually a gentle and good person. Now the rest characters...Victor is an intriguing figure, Jax is funny, Veronica...totally dislike her (haha!) and Stefan is a really clever guy. At start i thought they were too many characters and POVs for one book, but as the story went on i saw that each one of them had a small but important part to play.

I recommend the book to anyone who likes mysteries. It's just really good and enjoyable. And in a way was lighter and easier to read it than the Summoner. But, if you are not in mood for Summoner to read before, no worries! You can read it as a stand alone novel too. Everything you need to know about the previous events is mentioned when it's needed.

Thanks Layton Green for providing a digital copy of the book.

  2. I did a tour for Layton for both THE SUMMONER and THE EGYPTIAN.

Great to hear THE EGYPTIAN is just as good as THE SUMMONER.

Stop by my blog if you like...I am having three giveaways.
